THE doors have recently reopened at a Millicent shop after it was briefly closed due to risks associated with COVID-19 pandemic.

Millicent Toy Kingdom clocked up 32 years in business this month under the same family ownership.

The Davenport Street shop has been operated by Bill and Helen Davis since May 1, 1988.

According to Ms Davis, it had been a tough decision to stop trading for a fortnight.

“We decided to reopen as we needed to be here for the kids,” Ms Davis said.

“They need to have somewhere to go to get presents for birthday parties.

“We did some selling via online means while the shop was closed for those two weeks.

“We do have some restrictions still in place due to the COVID-19 protocols.

“There is a limit on the number we can have in the shop at any one time and we have social distancing.”

When The South Eastern Times called at Toy Kingdom last week, three generations of the Rowley family were shopping for toys.

Matriarch Sarah Rowley said the family love spending time at the toy shop.

Ms Rowley said they live away from Millicent, but have been coming to Toy Kingdom for several years.

“It is more fun than spending time in a department store,” Ms Rowley said.

Meanwhile, Sooz in the Shed, Sassi and Hair and Beauty by Shirene Figg are among the businesses who have either reopened or extended trading hours and services.

Greater vibrancy is also evident at Beachport’s business sector.
