New Mount Gambier storefront to be unveiled as final touches added to ‘one-stop shop’

SHE’S Apples Market Mount Gambier will unveil its new modern store to its loyal following next Thursday, with the “one-stop shop” now in its final days of preparation.

The prominent fresh produce supplier will close the doors to its James Street store tomorrow afternoon and prepare its new Compton Street premises for its public reveal on April 30.

Store director Phil Telfer yesterday said he was excited to present the new storefront to the community, situated in the former Radio Rentals building and a stone’s throw from the $12m Coles redevelopment and new Aldi site.

“We have evolved extraordinarily over the past 30 years and where we are now is really where we wanted to end up,” Mr Telfer said.

“When we first took over from Radio Rentals it was hard to see our vision and think about how things were going to come together.

“Now it has, we are excited to continue to supply the public with more products they love and we know they will enjoy.”

Mr Telfer said She’s Apples Market had continued to modernise its image over the past two years with the new site showcasing its current branding, using a bold splash of green to standout.

“People would have noticed we have moved from a yellow and blue colour scheme to more lime green and dark greys, which is clearly seen through the new premise,” he said.

“We have tried to create a certain mood and we hope the lighting works in a way customers can explore in comfort.”

With an increase in services, Mr Telfer said the new She’s Apples Market premises was an exciting development for the town.

“Once all precincts are complete, this whole area will be a fantastic hot-spot for shoppers.

“It will be just like a breath of fresh air for us all.”

Mr Telfer said COVID-19 had not impacted construction and the business was committed to opening the store in the original time frame it set out.

“We have had this plan for six to eight months now, so we are always keen to get it done in this time,” he said.

“We thought we always knew the current situation would not slow us down.”

Mr Telfer said all She’s Apples Market services would cease from close of business tomorrow until the doors open on the new store.

“It is impossible for us to be open any earlier with the amount of work which needs to be done,” he said.

“Obviously we are also trying to run down our fresh stock so it is not impacted over the period of shutdown too.”

Mr Telfer said the project budget had been maintained during the major business overhaul.

“You can apply a cost on paper, but getting that into fruition can be a harder task than expected,” he said.

“Overall, we are happy with how budgeting has went and our time frame.”

Once social distancing restrictions are lifted, Mr Telfer hoped the public would embrace the restaurant-style cafe and large quantity of takeaway options.

“A qualified chef will be in the kitchen and it will all be about sitting down and working off a menu,” he said.

“There will also be a larger array of salads, take-home meals, fresh meats, service deli and extended ranges of what we currently supply.”

Mr Telfer said She’s Apples Market planned to open April 30 with staff looking forward to greeting customers at 8am.
