A MAN who allegedly exposed himself to a woman and attempted to stab her at a Millicent toilet block will remain in custody until December 21.
The 30-year-old man appeared in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court last week after being arrested for multiple sex-related charges.
Prosecution said just before 7am on March 18, a female was sitting at a bench outside of the Millicent Visitor Information Centre when she was approached by the defendant.
The court heard the accused and victim were not known to each other.
It was alleged the defendant sat next to the victim and proceeded to move closer to her.
According to the prosecution, the women felt uncomfortable and went to the nearby public toilet block to escape the defendant.
“When the women emerged from the toilet, the defendant was standing in the toilet’s corridor with his penis exposed while masturbating,” the prosecution said.
“He asked her for oral sex and when she denied his request, he rushed towards her and pinned her against the toilet’s wall.
“He tried to stab her with a screwdriver while attempting to grope her.”
Police said she managed to escape the defendant by biting him on the chest.
When police searched the area, the defendant was found approximately 800 metres from where the assault occurred at a nearby service station.
The man was found with a mark on his chest which was consistent with the woman’s report.
“He was also identified by the victim with a photo,” the prosecution said.
The man has been charged with indecent behaviour, indecent assault, aggravated threat to cause harm and engaging in sexual intercourse with a person without consent for the offending.
He will appear again in court on December 21 for the matter.
The defendant also been charged with theft and disorderly behaviour for other matters which will be addressed on April 15.
