FAMILY HONOUR: Over 35 people gathered at Nangwarry last week to launch the new installation which pays tribute to the Dohnt family.

THE long community involvement of the Dohnt family has been immortalised in a statue unveiled in Nangwarry last week.

More than 35 people attended the official launch of the sculpture on Friday, which pays homage to the well-known family and its contribution to the timber town.

The silhouette artwork was designed by Laurie Charman and was funded by community donations.

Speeches were presented by a representative of the Dohnt family, Laurie Charman and Robert Thomson, who recogised the efforts from both the Dohnt family and the community.

Located near the Nangwarry Swimming Pool, the installment is made of steel and was cut in Portland before it was welded together locally in Kalangadoo.

Artwork initiator and organiser Florence Thomson praised the strong turnout as fantastic.

“Overall the day went really well and we were all very happy with it,” Ms Thomson said.

“It did not rain during the ceremony which was great.”
