THE Millicent Choral Society has recently emerged from its customary summer recess and is ready for a busy year of music and singing in public.
Members gathered at their long-time rehearsal venue in the Millicent High School music suite.
The society’s annual elections were held with veteran singer Robert Dow stepping into the president’s role.
Mr Dow lives at Glencoe, has sung with the local group since 1993 and is a past office-holder.
He has succeeded Fay Richards who spent over a decade in charge.
Ms Richards was elected to the committee along with Tim Frost, Elsie Baird and John Chalmers.
Other offices are held by patron Joan Kemp, vice-president Helen Redford, secretary Jennifer Golding, treasurer and historian Anne Chalmers, music director Michael Bleby, librarian Elizabeth Butler, assistant librarian Dianne Green, auditor John McLoughlin, public officer Fred Lorenz and assistant music director Mr Frost.
Mr Dow said he looked forward to taking the reins for 2020 and the first half of the year’s program was taking shape.
“We will be singing, as usual, at Geltwood Festival market day in Millicent on March 29,” Mr Dow said.
“After a break of several years, we will be the guest performers at the annual Mount Gambier Salvation Army Anzac accolade on April 22.
“The church will be full for that.
“The Millicent Choral Society will be taking part in a Christian Music Celebration at the Millicent Italian Club on May 31.
“Every two years, we take part in the South Australian Country Choral Association concert.
“The 2020 event is being staged at Victor Harbor on August 29.”
Budding singers are welcome to attend rehearsals at the Millicent High School music suite at 7.30pm every Monday.
