A COMPETITOR has expressed her regret the Millicent branch of the Commonwealth Bank is closing in May.
People’s Choice Credit Union Millicent branch manager Tash Futcher said it was sad to hear of the closure.
“It is always sad when you hear of local jobs being lost,” Ms Futcher said.
People’s Choice has had a presence in George Street since the 1970s when it was known as the Snuggery Credit Union and it drew its members from the local paper mills.
Ms Futcher now oversees a branch with almost 4000 accounts.
“I expect we will see more Commonwealth Bank people joining as credit union members between now and when their branch closes in May,” she said.
“They will probably be surprised they will not have to make an appointment to open an account or talk about a home loan because our branch staff and our home lender Lucy Gogan are based in our Millicent branch.”
“We are here for close to 4000 members from across the community, from those with jobs at major employers to the cray fishermen.
“I have been with People’s Choice for almost 20 years and was born in Millicent, so I think it’s important we continue to provide our community with the high level of service it deserves.”
