THE Department for Environment and Water (DEW) says it is exploring options to reopen Dingley Dell.
“With the conclusion of the caretaker’s lease at Dingley Dell Conservation Park, the Department for Environment and Water is exploring new lease and activation options for the site’s built heritage and surroundings,” a department spokesperson said.
“DEW is exploring options to enable re-opening Dingley Dell and in the meantime has provided some extra security for the site.
The department also rejected speculation that some items have been transported to Adelaide.
“For further protection and safe-keeping, its local office in Mount Gambier is also storing the historical and valuable item,” the spokesperson said.
“Opportunities are being considered to reinvigorate the site’s historical identity, its strong connection with the famous poet, politician and horseman Adam Lindsay Gordon and to increase community involvement and visitation through heritage tourism, events and cultural experiences.”
