THE core elements of literacy and numeracy will remain a key focus of the curriculum for Limestone Coast schools throughout 2020, according to the region’s education director Adam Box.

With most Limestone Coast schools returning to bustling hives of activity yesterday, Mr Box said improved results and outcomes for students in literacy and numeracy would be a focus area.

“Literacy in particular will be a focus across a majority of sites with strong literacy outcomes for students a key indicator for future success,” Mr Box said.

The senior education figure said it was too early to determine exact enrolment numbers for the 2020 school year with education facilities yet to complete their official enrolment census.

However, he said enrolments appeared positive at most Limestone Coast sites with most expected to be at capacity.

“My advice for parents of students who are just starting or who are returning to school is to make sure the lines of communication between parents, schools and the students remain open and positive,” Mr Box said.

“When schools and families work together in a proactive manner it will most likely lead to the best results and outcomes for our children.”
