HOME-BAKED goods from kitchens across Millicent and district have found many customers and their sale raised $1200 to help bushfire relief efforts.

A bring-and-buy charity stall was held inside the Millicent Newsagency premises in George Street on Thursday morning.

More than 100 plates of cakes and sweet treats were donated and sold out within two hours.

The proceeds will be shared between wildlife parks at Cudlee Creek and Kangaroo Island as well as the Kangaroo Island Mayoral Appeal.

The store had bushfire relief collection containers for over a fortnight with appeal efforts to a close on January 31.

Millicent Newagency co-proprietor Barb Smith was pleased by the 40 local people who baked for the fundraiser and the many others who were purchasers.

Her husband Paul Smith has a background as a commercial chef and also spent time in the kitchen on the eve of the stall.

“He baked 60 cream puffs as he has done for the Millicent Show in recent years,” Ms Smith said.

“Millicent has some wonderful community-minded people.

“Everyone was happy to be involved and they have also supported other Millicent businesses in their bushfire relief fundraising efforts.”

Among the contributors to the cake stall takings were the staff and residents of Boneham Aged Care Services in Millicent.

Under the leadership of Boneham lifestyle coordinator Deb Cavanagh, they spent much of the pre-stall day baking goods.
