A CONVOY of unique cars will make its way to Beachport on Saturday to raise money for two charities.
The Limestone Coast Unique Car Spotting Charity Run will support the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s fundraising goal for the Mount Gambier Patient Transfer Facility at the city’s airport, while also collecting funds for the Kangaroo Island Mayoral Bushfire Relief and Recovery fund.
Leaving from the former Bunnings site at 10am, the cruise hopes to exceed last year’s inaugural cruise, which attracted 63 cars and raised $1200 for drought-affected communities.
With an influx of interest so far, event organiser Josh Young said the initiative had received generous donations from Limestone Coast businesses.
“I know someone over on Kangaroo Island who lost half his farm in the fires so it was a pretty easy decision to choose the recovery fund as well,” Mr Young said.
“We do not know how many entries we have so far but we are hoping to have more than last year.”
Overwhelmed by the community support, Mr Young hoped to maintain the event’s annual status.
“I love getting people together and I have always found the car community bonds together,” he said.
“We are capable of raising some fantastic money for charity and have had great community support so far.
“From reports from last year everyone had a fantastic time so I am hoping the same people from last year attend again and possibly a few extras as well.”
The group will meet at the former Bunnings site at 8am on Saturday before leaving at 10am.
The cruise will travel to Beachport via Millicent along the scenic route and finish with lunch at the Beachport Bowls Club.
There will be a small cover charge of $5 for a single-person vehicle or bike with $10 per car.
Beachport Bowls Club will also open its greens for people wishing to play a game of bowls at $5 per person.
