Millicent Country Fire Service honour bestowed

WELL DONE: Millicent CFS Brigade volunteer firefighter Luke Bardolph congratulated fellow member Noah Telfer on being named Firefighter of the Year for 2019.

THE Millicent Country Fire Service (CFS) brigade has recently bestowed an honour on one of its own.

Each year the officers of the brigade choose an individual to receive the Firefighter of The Year award and the 2019 recipient is Noah Telfer.

He joined the Millicent brigade last year at the age of 16 and has regularly attended training and incidents.

“I joined the CFS so I could help my community, learn new skills and make my family proud,” Noah said.

“There have been many incidents where I have had a chance to grow and develop by being exposed to challenging and difficult circumstances.”

Along with Noah, Millicent brigade also has Frazer Johnston and Jack Errington under 20 years of age.

A Millicent CFS spokesperson said the brigade had a history of contributing to the development of younger members over the years.

“The nature of the work means these members are exposed to risky and potentially emotionally challenging situations that many would never experience,” the spokesman said.

“The fragility of life is often put in perspective.”

The local unit was also bolstered in 2019 by the addition of experienced volunteer firefighter Luke Bardolph who moved to Millicent.

The newcomers are very welcome as the Millicent CFS brigade recorded one of its busiest months in living memory.

In addition to regular training, the volunteer fire-fighters attended 14 call-outs in December including grass fires, water bombing re-filling and vehicle collisions.
