A MILLICENT service club has responded to the devastating bushfires across many areas of the nation.
The Millicent Lions Club is donating $5000 to the Australian Lions Foundation towards bushfire disaster relief.
Club president Quentin Pietsch said his board quickly endorsed the nationwide request for assistance which came from the national Australian Lions Foundation headquarters.
“Hopefully, this will motivate others to donate,” Mr Pietsch said.
“The donated money will go to those on the ground in the most need.
“The Australian Lions Foundation has the infrastructure in place and so there are no added administrative costs.
“Millicent Lions make donations to the Foundation each year.
“In turn, we can apply for grants from the Lions Foundation and we received the maximum $15,000 for two of our projects: the catering van and the Lions Den.”
Mr Pietsch said the club was in a position to support the Australian Lions Foundation appeal as it receives strong community support in its fund-raising initiatives.
He said major source of revenue was catering but the public also buys mints, raffle tickets and Christmas cakes.
Community members are encouraged to also contribute to the Australian Lions Foundation bushfire appeal either by donating online direct or if preferred a local donation can be made by contacting the Millicent Lions Club on lions.millicent@gmail.com to obtain bank details.
Cheques or cash can be delivered to Richard North at Nutrien Ag Solutions (formerly Landmark).
