Former cadet leads the way to new rank

LEADING THE CHARGE: 22-year-old Samuel Jenner has been made Lieutenant after training at the Royal Military College in Duntroon.

FORMER Mount Gambier army cadet Samuel Jenner is now ranked as a Lieutenant after graduating from the Royal Military College in Duntroon this month.

It is a great achievement for the 22-year-old Mount Gambier man who began as a cadet at the 48 Army Cadets in 2009 and is now in pursuit of becoming a platoon commander.

After a “challenging but rewarding” year of training, Mr Jenner looks forward to applying what he has learned at his next posting.

Mr Jenner enrolled in the Australian Army in 2016 after spending six years in cadet training.

He was then accepted to study at the Australian Defense Force Academy, where he simultaneously completed a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in History and International Political Studies while completing his army officer training.
Now graduated, Mr Jenner has been allocated to the Royal Australian Infantry in Brisbane from next year, making himself a role model for young local cadets and the wider Limestone Coast community.

With a passion for the defense force and the driving goal of leading soldiers himself, Mr Jenner will head to Singleton for two months prior to his move to Brisbane to complete his infantry-specific training, and to Puckapunyal’s School of Armour.

Throughout his career and training, Mr Jenner has been recognised for his commitment to the industry by a landslide of achievement, including earning a South Australian Army Cadet of the Year award along the way in recognition for his strong leadership qualities.

However, he remains humbled and focused on giving back in service.

“I am not thinking too far in the future, I am just focused on being the best the best platoon commander I can be,” Mr Jenner said.
