TWIN sisters Keely and Shayla Jones both aced their Year 12 studies this year, saying a healthy rivalry kept them motivated.

Studying at Tenison Woods College, the pair received Australian Tertiary Admission Rank scores of 96.85 and 94.6 respectively.

Both studied Biology, English, Psychology and Research Project with Keely studying essential math and Shayla completing general math.

With both obtaining a merit in English, Shayla said they developed a passion for reading early in life.

“We both love English and really enjoy reading as we have always read with our mum from a young age,” she said.

“Our favourite teacher was Marilena Wilson, she was always helping us.”

Shayla said their strong relationship created some healthy competition during their Year 12 studies.

“It is good because we help each other out a lot,” she said.

“If she was studying then I will think I would have to study as well.

“Every Sunday we would spend the whole day doing homework and would get up at a normal time, not sleeping in.”

Keely said they kept pushing each other to do better.

“I remember at the start of Year 12 I wanted to drop Biology because I found it so hard,” she said.

“Shayla told me to keep going, which I am glad I did.

“I ended up getting a good grade in it.”

The sisters intend to study at Deakin University in Geelong – hopefully at the same campus.

Shayla said hopes to pursue a bachelor in medical imaging, while Keely is looking at a double degree in nursing and midwifery.
