IMPROVED INFRASTRUCTURE: Recreational fishers at Dry Creek and Donovans will find it easier to get out onto the water thanks to the installation of new boat ramps.

BOATING enthusiasts and recreational fishers at Dry Creek and Donovans will find it easier to get out onto the water following the installation of new boat ramps.

Project contractors will be on site next week to demolish and remove the existing timber structures and install the new pontoons.

The boat ramps are ageing and unstable and do not move with river tides, making access difficult for boat launching.

The new installations, matching the 2017 upgraded Donovans Landing, will connect new aluminium/composite floating pontoons to the existing concrete abutments, enabling safe boat launching to occur with tidal flows of the rive.

Moreover, the project will include cleats and fire retardant decking mats, which will reduce an identified slip risk hazard for users.

The opening of the new ramps comes in time for the Christmas and summer holidays when many people frequent the Glenelg River to undertake boating, fishing activities or spending time enjoying nature-based tourism opportunities.

Grant District Council and project contractor Sea Slip will work with residents and visitors to minimise disruption to the area, however if residents have concerns they are encouraged to contact council.

The South Australian Boating Facilities Advisory Committee – managed by the Planning, Transport and Infrastructure Department- and Grant District Council both contributed $97,000 to the project.
