THE South East Classic and Unique Car Club will celebrate a decade of existence with its inaugural car show later this month.

Event coordinator Andrew Aldersey said it was the first time in the association’s history it had held a car show, with the 10th anniversary a worthy occasion.

“We thought we would do something different this year since it was our 10-year birthday,” Mr Aldersey said.

“We are expecting a decent display of cars as club members are usually active when it comes to events.”

Mr Aldersey said club functions were not just based around vehicles and offered opportunity for family involvement.

“We often hold events which are of members’ interest, for example our recent beekeeping workshop in Naracoorte or our wineries and vignerons informative presentation in Penola,” he said.

“I think it creates interest when we cater to what people want.”

As a car club, Mr Aldersey said members were “not trying to be rocket scientists”, but were like-minded people sharing their passion.

“We are not trying to change the world in any way,” he said.

“The cars are just the catalysts and we are here to enjoy ourselves.”

Mr Aldersey said the club had grown significantly since it was established and most foundation members were still heavily involved.

“I think it is a real testimony with how well the club is going,” he said.

Although a not-for-profit organisation, Mr Aldersey said it had significantly contributed to the community through fundraisers.

“Averaging in the last three years, we had around 350 to 400 people go to the different events we have held during the year,” he said.

“We are not planning to raise any money at the car show as it will be free entry.

“We want to encourage the community to attend and have a look at the wonderful cars which will be on display.”

The 10-year anniversary car show will be held at the Lady Nelson on October 26 from 10am to 2pm.
