Regional Lions gather at convention held in Mount Gambier

Lions Convention (8) TBW Newsgroup
CONVENTION: Penola Lions president Peter Muller, Dr John Collins and Penola Lions secretary Mike Matuschka at the annual C2 District Lions Club convention.

PENOLA Lions was among a number of clubs to travel to Mount Gambier over the weekend for the annual 2019 C2 Crater City Capers District Convention.

Hundreds of members from 63 clubs, two Lioness clubs and four Leo clubs came together for the three-day event to discuss and make decisions for the district membership.

The C2 district covers half of South Australia, the Northern Territory, part of north-western Victoria and south-western New South Wales.

The convention predominately took place at the Italo Australia’s clubrooms at Casadio Park from October 11 to 13, with a memorial service also held at the Lions Memorial Park in the Lakes precinct.

Paediatrics and child health associate professor John Collins addressed club members on Friday as guest speaker and was praised by Penola Lions Club president Peter Muller.

Mr Muller said the guest speaker’s discussion was inspirational and enjoyed by all.

“Friday night was a fantastic night and it was wonderful and inspirational to hear Mr Collins speak about his journey through the Lions Club,” he said.

“It was great to see so many coming to Mount Gambier and was a wonderful evening.”

Fellow member Hayden Hodes represented the Penola Lions Club on the weekend and said the event was a coup for the region.

“There has to be a great economical benefit,” Mr Hodes said.

“Not only did it bring in so many members from across the C2 district but they all seemed to have a fantastic time.

“It showed off our region and it brought many here which was great.”

The weekend ended with Mount Gambier Lions Club handing over the flags during a ceremony to next year’s convention host Naracoorte Lions Club.
