Service club support recognised at highest levels

PENOLA REPRESENTATIVE: Penola Lions Club president Peter Muller sits with the South Australian Governor’s wife Lan Le during the gala dinner held at Government House over the weekend.

PENOLA Lions Club president Peter Muller represented the region this weekend at a special gala dinner held in metropolitan Adelaide.

The volunteer met with South Australian Governor Hieu Van Le AC to recognise the support the Lions Club provides to Foodbank South Australia.

Mr Le invited service providers and volunteers of Foodbank SA to a reception at Government House to thank them all for the continued support.

The Lions Club of Penola has previously supported Foodbank SA with a $1000 donation.

Attending the event on behalf of the club, Mr Muller said the reception attracted around 60 Lions, Rotary and administration staff of Foodbank SA with the Governor and his wife welcoming visitors.

“The governess spoke highly of the volunteer efforts undertaken by the organisations and she expressed her hopes for such activities to continue,” Mr Muller said.

“They expressed their gratefulness for the support the organisations could give to the less fortunate and also spoke highly of the South East region.”

Mr Muller said around 60 Lions clubs had made a substantial donation to Foodbank SA.

He said Penola’s donations stem from the proceeds of the service clubs’ annual Christmas hamper.

“Although we remain at arms length from the Foodbank SA we do ensure that we donate $1000 per year to the orgnaisation to help those less fortunate especially around Christmas time,” he said.
