AFTER a successful inaugural event, Freaky Fit’s Mental Health Relay has raised $1000 for Wattle Range Suicide Prevention Network and Mount Gambier’s headspace branch.

The organisations will receive $500 each.

The Mental Health Relay was held last month at the Millicent Soccer Club, with a number of people participating in the eight-hour team run around the pitch.

In addition to the relay, participants got involved in a bootcamp, mini soccer games and a bouncy castle.

Guests also heard from suicide awareness activist Shanita Bruttomesso, headspace Mount Gambier community liaison worker Mikarla Papini and Wattle Range Suicide Prevention Network member Des Noll.

Freaky Fit gym owner and event organiser Chantelle Fuller said donations came from contributions on the day and funds raised after the event.

“Friends and family really rallied behind it and it was a really amazing day,” Ms Fuller said.

Ms Fuller created the mental health relay to raise awareness of a critical issue in regional communities and, in addition to the relay, had activities such as soccer and boot camps.

“The Wattle Range Suicide Prevention Network really appreciates Freaky Fit taking up this initiative and supporting the organisation,” Mr Noll said.

“It is also about supporting the community and these funds will be used to support people who have been affected by suicide.
