A LIMESTONE Coast farm manager who was found with 12 shotgun cartridges without a firearms license has been placed on a good behaviour bond.
Robert Frederick Alvey, 39 appeared at the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court unrepresented on October 2 for possessing ammunition without a license or a permit.
The prosecutor said police received information which warranted a search of Alvey’s premise on August 2.
During the search the shotgun cartridges were found in the main bedroom, laying on the bed in “plain sight.”
A friend of the defendant said Alvey had been moving for a number of years and only recently settled in Mount Gambier.
“He manages a number of farms in the area and was given the shotgun cartridges by a friend,” he said.
“He usually keeps them in his car.”
Magistrate Jack Fahey said any offending relating to firearms was a serious matter.
Magistrate Fahey ordered forfeiture of the shotgun shells and placed Alvey on a 12-month, $200 good behaviour bond.
