Penola show committee puts out call for young ambassador

Jake Lowe TBW Newsgroup
CALLING FOR YOUNG AMBASSADORS: Penola Show 2019 ambassador of the Year Jake Rowe has joined the Penola Show committee’s search for a Young Rural Ambassador.

PENOLA will host another exciting weekend next month, with preparations for the town’s 155th annual show well under way.

This year’s show events will span over November 1 and 2 and showcase a number of new and traditional attractions, including baby goats, the Farmers Challenge and the gum boot throwing competition.

Penola Show committee member Kerry DeGaris said the only piece missing was the show’s young rural ambassador.

“We have our 2019 Ambassador of the Year Jake Rowe but we are struggling to find a young rural ambassador,” Ms DeGaris said.

“We are looking for someone who has had some experience with exhibiting in the show, however it is not necessary.”

With school holidays believed to have impacted nominations, Ms DeGaris said the committee was looking for a youth willing to take on the role.

“It may be because they are too busy with school work, but show experience does not have to be on the agenda,” she
said.

“However, experience will help if they do make it to the regional level as it is a criteria for judges.”

Nominees must be between 16 to 20 years of age and be enthusiastic and knowledgeable about rural life and affairs.

Despite the need for a young ambassador, Ms DeGaris said the organising committee was on track with the show preparations.

“We are hoping for around 100 entries in this year’s men’s chocolate cake competition and are looking forward to the women’s gardening exhibition,” she said.

Penola Show booklets have officially been launched and are available at the Penola Visitors Information Centre.
