CELEBRATING his 40th birthday last year, Mount Gambier resident Lincoln Edwards received the present of his dreams.
Mr Edwards’ wife Kylie surprised him with this 1967 Holden HR Special following an internet hunt for the classic vehicle.
Mr Edwards said he loved everything about the Sandown Fawn and Kashmir White coloured vehicle.
“We have only had it for 12 months and we believe the vehicle has basically been in storage its whole life,” he said.
“We bought it from somebody in Moorak who only drove it once in a blue moon.
“The original owner was from Melbourne and I am the third registered owner.”
Mr Edwards said he believed the vehicle was manufactured in Adelaide.
“The car is basically all original with original paint work, a three-speed column shift transmission and a six-cylinder, 186 Holden Red motor,” he said.
“We had to install seat-belts in the back for my daughters Sienna and Ava just so it was a bit safer.
“It does look like a car an old man would drive but that is why I love it.”
Mr Edwards said the Valsand and Copra Fawn coloured trim still holds the classic Holden smell.
“There are no particular favorite aspect I like most about the vehicle because I love the whole thing,” he said.
“We plan to keep it as original as possible.
“I have actually also always wanted a Holden Torana but the prices have just gone through the roof.”
Mr Edwards said he planned to participate in this year’s Bay to Birdwood and had joined the South East Street Machines car club.
“We have already been on a few cruises but I plan to join in with anything which pops up,” he said.
“I am hoping it will be kept in the family through my kids.”
Mr Edwards said he had always been a Holden man.
“My father was also pretty wrapped when I first got the car as he had a similar model back in the day,” he said.
“I grew up admiring Peter Brock and Mark Skaife.
“I have also just attended the The Bend SuperSprint where I was able to meet Mark Winterbottom and Jamie Whincup as well as some other racing champions.”
Mr Edwards said his two daughters and wife loved to cruise in the car.
“As it it has no air conditioner or heaters, they all take their blankets if it is going to get cold,” he said.
“A lot of people will stop, look and wave when driving past.
“It is great as you do not get it in a standard vehicle.”
