MILLICENT High School Year 10 students are currently experiencing the working world through a popular learning program.

Starting Monday and running into next week, students will work in fields as diverse as education, aged care, retail, hospitality and trade services to fulfil their Personal Learning Plan Stage 1 requirements.

Securing placement at Banner Mitre 10, Tyson Mitchell has spent the week with staff learning new skills in both horticulture and carpentry.

“I have been assembling chairs, helping out in the garden and also helping with deliveries,” Tyson said.

“I have an interest in trades and Mitre 10 is well-regarded in the community.

“It’s been pretty great here and I have good people to work with.”
Mitre 10 assistant manager Simon Beggs believes the work experience program is beneficial for students.

“It’s a good experience for kids who want to get into their fields and to see what it’s like to be around staff,” Mr Beggs said.

Another student, Tanner Milnes, has spent the week at Millicent Tyre Centre.

“I have been changing, balancing and fixing punctures in tyres,” Tanner said.

“The staff have been helping me out a lot.”

Tanner said an interest in auto repair services led him to approach the tyre centre to complete his work experience.

Students keep a written journal of their experiences during the week and complete follow-up assessment tasks when they return to school.
