IT’S ALL HAPPENING IN OCTOBER: Wattle Range Council environmental health officer Catarina Santos with the Seniors Month programs and Senior of the Year application forms that can be picked up at the council offices.

THE region will celebrate Seniors Month during October with a range of market days, lunches and film nights across the Wattle Range.

The official launch will be held at Millicent Civic and Arts Centre on October 1 from 11am and will be backed up the following day with a trivia event at the centre from 10.30am.

Other program highlights include an outing to the Kalangadoo Farmer’s Market, South East Family History Group family tree research support, Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations, the Penola Lions senior lunch, Heritage Day at the Millicent National Trust Museum, a tour of HollaFresh and a movie night at Beachport cinema.

Popular annual events include the Millicent Orchid Society spring show, Millicent Hospital open day and fete and a barbecue and scenic walk at Lake McIntyre.

The full program can be found at participating businesses, Wattle Range visitor information centres and council offices.

Entries have also opened for the 2019 Wattle Range senior citizen of the year, with people over the age of 60 who have made noteworthy contributions to the community eligible for nomination.

Nomination forms are available at Wattle Range Council offices, with confidential applications to be lodged to council by 5pm on October 7.

The award will be presented at Millicent Civic and Arts Centre on October 31, with the afternoon event to include finger food and live music from members of the Casterton-based Stumpy Gully Bush Band.
