SPORTING organisations from Millicent, Beachport, Kalangadoo and Glencoe have been given thousands of dollars in grants through the State Government’s Active Club Program.

In the MacKillop electorate, eight sport clubs will share more than $120,000 for programs and projects.

The Millicent Football Netball Club has received $25,000 for solar panels on its McLaughlin Park clubrooms.

“These solar panels will definitely lower our electricity costs and also reduce our environmental footprint,” club president Joel Redman said.

“It’s becoming more and more important to have an energy efficient operation.”

Mr Redman said the solar panels would be installed soon.

“We’re excited about the possibilities of how we can improve these facilities.”

The Millicent Basketball Association received $5000 to fund a new digitised scoreboard and timer.

“This will assist us in getting a scoreboard and we’re working on getting funding for a second scoreboard,” Millicent basketball stadium manager Peter Seebohm said.

In addition to these associations, the Beachport Bowling Club has received $12,527 for a solar installation and Glencoe Bowling Club received $14,000 to help replace its roof.

Kalangadoo Netball Club also received $25,000 for flood lighting upgrades.

“The funding through the Active Club Program does wonders for clubs who are in need of equipment or facility upgrades,” Member for MacKillop Nick McBride said.

“I have been in close dialogue with the clubs who have received funding, so it’s great to hand over the certificate to the clubs that are benefiting from the government’s program.”

South Australian Recreation, Sport and Racing Minister Corey Wingard said the funding would help create more sporting opportunities for the region.
