DADS were celebrated last Sunday at a charity event in the Millicent parklands.

To coincide with Fathers’ Day, the Millicent Cancer Support Group (MCSG) held a fundraiser dubbed ‘Millicent Walks Two Fight Cancer’.

The walk started at Jubilee Park on North Terrace with options of a 2km or 4km walk.

Among the walkers were Millicent couple Quentin and Pam Pietsch who have supported group in past events.

Support group president Margie Gysbers said the grey skies and light rain early on Sunday morning probably deterred some other participants.

Ms Gysbers said the funds raised at such events enabled the purchase of new air mattresses and special palliative care chairs at Millicent Hospital at a cost of $3000.

“We had 40 walkers and this is down a bit on past years,” Ms Gysbers said.

“We had some positive messages written on cards on the route this year along with some jokes.

“Others were local history questions and they were written by Colleen Hammat.

“The next major event is the annual Carols in the Shearing Shed in December which we assist with catering.

“We also fill Christmas mugs with lollies and sent them off to patients at the Mount Gambier Hospital and the new Royal Adelaide Hospital.”
