KNITTED red poppies will adorn trees in Penola’s War Memorial Park to pay tribute to Australian service men and women during next year’s Anzac Day commemorative events..
The Penola Terra Rossa Country Women’s Association (CWA) encourages community members to get their knitting hooks out and join in on the fun to support the Returned and Services League.
Project organiser Anne Johnson said the group needs between 3000 to 5000 poppies in order to achieve its goal.
“The CWA group will be doing a lot of the poppy making and we would like to invite others to make red poppies as well,” Ms Johnson said.
“People of the community can knit, crochet or felt the poppies, however we do not recommend everyone use the same pattern as we think it would look more interesting to have a variety of red poppies cascading down the streets.
Community members who wish to contribute will be able to take their poppy creations to Di’s Gifts and Flowers before Christmas.
“We will be working very hard after Christmas to sew the poppies onto metres of shade cloth,” Ms Johnson said.
