A MOTHER and daughter have shared a creative journey with the launch of the pair’s collaborative art exhibition at the Naracoorte Art Gallery.
Artists India and Katheryn Chaston were touched by the strong crowd at the recent opening, with the duo saying it was decades in the making.
The exhibition features mother Kathryn’s glass sculptures of native birds and flowers.
India’s artworks are water paintings of the sculptures.
“We have always spoken about doing a collaborative exhibition since India was younger,” Katheryn said.
“It is so special to be able to achieve that life-long goal of ours together.”
The touched mother complimented her daughter and said she was “a very talented young lady.”
“Not a lot of people have the experience to do an exhibition alongside their daughter and for us to do that was something special,” Katheryn said.
Katheryn said both artists were overwhelmed and touched at the support and added it was a chance for the two to present their artwork to the wider community.
“Most of my artwork is not held here in the region,” Katheryn said.
“It was a great opportunity for me to go and present our work and show the community what we do.”
India said her artwork was “23 years in the making.”
“Mums work is quite small in size so an exhibition on her own would not have filled the space offered by the gallery,” the daughter said.
“The fact that we are so close being mother and daughter we were able to really focus on having cohesive work.”
With Naracoorte being Katheryn’s hometown, India said it was an honour to be able to have an exhibition in a familiar space.
“We have had quite a bit to do with the gallery over the years so it was very special and a real honour for us to be able to do this,” India said.
The exhibition is on display at the Naracoorte Art Gallery until September 15.
