HAVING A BLAST: Ozzy Morton, Tyler Hellyer and Arlie Shadbolt had a ball at last year’s Penola Show which is expected to draw in another large crowd this November.

FABULOUS entertainment, spectacular sights and true country authenticity will dominate the 2019 Penola Show, with the Penola Pastoral, Agricultural and Horticultural Society rounding up a range of fun activities never before seen at the small town event.

Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation will take over the oval on Friday, November 1, sharing the stage with a unique hip-hop performance.

Live bands will play well into the night and families will be dazzled by the annual fireworks, traditional sideshow and rides.

Show society secretary Kathy Fennell said the men’s chocolate cake competition would return as a result of huge successes at the 2018 event.

“Last year we had just over 70 entries so this year we are hoping to ramp it up and aim for 100,” Ms Fennell said.

“We will have great entertainment for the children as well as a golf simulator and the regular horse shows.”

Ms Fennell said a small goat competition and rubber boot throwing contest would keep kids entertained.

“We also have a handful of novelty competitions such as the tallest weed competition this year,” she said.

“As well as the petting zoo and a reptile enclosure, we are really aiming to have the kids involved this year.”

With a few kinks to work out, the ambassadors of the year are also expected to be announced on the day.

“We have Jake Row as our ambassador of the year but we are still in the works for our young ambassador of the year,” Ms Fennell said.

Ms Fennell said the society was accepting early bird members this year in a bid to boost membership before the annual event.

“These members will go in the draw to win a $200 prize, which will be drawn on show day.”

T”his year the annual event will be held on November 1 and 2 due to the year’s calendar.

“This happens every five years or so,” she said.

“The show will be held on the Friday and Saturday with just the horses performing on the Sunday.”
