Prosecution prepares for committal brief over Coorong hit and run fatality

A MOUNT Gambier man involved in a fatal hit and run collision near the Coorong in January will be asked to answer the charge in five months time.

Daniel Luke Barry, 37, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday charged with causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of driving without due care and one count of leaving the scene of an accident.

The prosecution indicated they have reached a charge determination and now require five months to prepare the committal brief.

It was alleged Barry was the driver of a truck which struck a 60-year-old Victorian man on the Princes Highway, 50km north of Kingston.

Paramedics rushed to the area, however were unable to save the man who died at the scene.

Barry failed to stop after the accident, leading police to search for damage on vehicles in the surrounding area.

However, Barry later notified police he was the man involved in the crash and officers arrested him in Naracoorte on Thursday afternoon.

He was granted bail to live with his parents after the incident.

Conditions were also made that he not drive a truck of any kind.

Prosecutors have previously said the evidence on the bullbar would be significant in proving the elements of the charges.

Magistrate Teresa Anderson adjourned the matter to February 10.
