Community quizzed to raise funds for centre

SAY PLAYGROUND: McKay Children’s Centre attendees Otis, Angus, Laila, Harvey and Vinnie show their excitement as they think about what playground additions they could have.

THE quest for new facilities at McKay Children’s Centre will have many residents searching for answers tonight as part of a quiz night fundraising initiative.

The centre has organised the unique event – held at Penola Primary School – in a bid to fund improvements at the centre, with a revamp of its outdoor area among the proposals.

Committee member Paul Stone said the event would provide a unique and entertaining night out for residents.

“A quiz night is a great idea for the community because it is different to the regular fundraisers around town,” Mr Stone said.

Mr Stone said the quiz night would be based “loosely around the kindergarten theme” with fun and entertaining categories.

“There will be fun and games as well as the quiz,” he said.

“There will also be a large amount of prizes which have been donated from the community.”

Alongside the fun and games, an auction will be held during the night, with all proceeds heading towards furthering the childcare centre facilities.

“The main reason why we wanted to hold a big event was to raise a large sum of funds for the centre,” he said.

“It can go towards more outdoor facilities, a new multipurpose room or any of the other ideas the committee has.

“Updating the backyard as well as their playground areas, alongside maybe a new room for activities and a larger outdoor undercover area for when it is raining, are just some of the things on our list.”

With bookings already banking up the high hopes of the committee Mr Stone is encouraging the community to jump on board the cause.

“It is going to be a pretty good night but we would like to thank all the sponsors and the businesses who have donated to the night as well,” he said.

The quiz night will be held this Saturday from 6.30pm, with a $10 entry fee.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks for the night.
