Prison term served

A SOUTH East man who breached an intervention order on two occasions has been released from prison after serving adequate time for the offending.

Jesse Doak, 19, appeared via video-link in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on Tuesday to be sentenced for the offending.

The prosecution said the defendant met with the protected person earlier this year because she asked him for money.

Police pulled up beside the pair and charged Doak for breaching the intervention order, which he breached again on July 10 when the protected person invited him to come and stay with her.

When a family member attended the flat and unlocked the door, they found the defendant hiding under a bed.

The family member called the police, however Doak fled the premises before they arrived.

He was arrested on July 16 and initially told police the family member was lying about him being at the property.

However, the defendant’s lawyer said his client now accepted he was in the presence of the protected person.

Magistrate Teresa Anderson said the intervention order was not going away, sentencing the defendant to 14 days jail, meaning time in custody had already been served.
