CONTROVERSIAL Mount Gambier scrap metal merchant Keith Pearson has been given just weeks to clear up the roadside along his Megaw Road property at Compton.
The matter – which is being heard in the Environment Resources and Development Court – concerns a litter abatement notice issued to Mr Pearson by Grant District Council.
Mr Pearson attended a directions hearing late last month and was unsuccessful in his attempt to secure another adjournment.
According to council acting chief executive officer Jane Fetherstonhaugh, the judge has issued a directive to Mr Pearson.
“The judge has given Mr Pearson eight weeks until the hearing to make good on his claims that he will have the roadside cleaned-up,” Ms Fetherstonhaugh said in a report tabled at council.
A hearing has been listed for early September.
Council issued the notice due to a large amount material being dumped along the roadside outside his Compton property.
Mr Pearson appealed the litter abatement notice.
