THE Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre is expected to be filled to capacity on August 10 when hundreds gather to salute the achievements of numerous businesses and individuals.

It will be the ninth consecutive year the Millicent Business Community Association will present its Outstanding Business awards.

Millicent office worker Anna Lonergan is one of 40 to be nominated for the prestigious employee of the year category.

For the past six years, she has filled an array of customer service roles with the All in Balance accountancy firm in George Street.

Headed by Brad Tilley, Ms Lonergan is pleased All In Balance has also secured a nomination in the service category of the awards.

“It is a great workplace,” Ms Lonergan said.

“I love interacting with our clients and there is a wide variety of work.

“I was thrilled when the association’s Marg Chapple called into the office and hand-delivered the letter saying I had been nominated.

“I feel honoured to be nominated.”

The South Eastern Times has been a major sponsor of the awards since its inception.

There have been a near-record 180 nominations across the seven categories.

The awards were judged on Monday night by an independent panel comprising three community members.

The identity of the winners remains a secret along with the winner of the Community Spirit Award and the newest entry into the association’s Hall of Fame.

The association committee introduced the Community Spirit Award in 2015 as a way of recognising businesses which undertake generous and kind acts.

It is sponsored each year by Foster’s Foodland in memory of family patriarch “Bob” Foster who successfully ran retail businesses in Rendelsham and Millicent for 67 years until his death in 2014.

The Hall of Fame entrants are all successful local businesses of long standing, including The South Eastern Times which received this accolade in 2015.

Highlights of the night include the announcements, awards, supper and dancing to the sounds of JB and Crowey.

As before, association members involved in the food industry will provide supper.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at Alternate Life.
