COLOURFUL blankets have been donated to those in need this winter by prolific knitter Amalia Morandin.
She recently completed her 87th blanket for Mount Gambier charity Four Reasons Why to be distributed throughout the local community.
“I love doing it and all the yarn or wool that I use is donated,” Ms Morandin said.
“With the wool being donated I feel as if it is not mine so I have no right to keep them.”
Beginning just over two years ago, Ms Morandin said a blanket could take anywhere from six days to three weeks to complete.
“It depends on the stitching I decide to use,” she said.
Four Reasons Why committee member Trudi Shelton said the organisation was grateful for Ms Morandin’s continued commitment.
“It amazes us that she just keeps on going,” Ms Shelton said.
“She has kept up with the demand for years now and she is not stopping anytime soon, we are so grateful for her contribution.”
The colourful additions are donated to the organisation before being distributed throughout those in need.
“They go back into the community which is the best thing,” Ms Shelton said.
“Anywhere from high school kids to new families who have moved to Australia from warmer countries.
“The new families absolutely love them not only because of the extra warmth but also because of the fantastic colours.”
Ms Shelton also said the local support, from donating the wool right through to the distribution, was the best part of the project.
“The entire thing is just so local,” she said.
“That is what is so great about it. It goes from a ball of yarn donated from a local right through to a beautiful blanket distributed to locals in need.”
