Man finds himself in poo with police

A MOUNT Gambier man has been fined after he threatened to defecate on the ground after being removed from a licensed premises.

The defendant did not attend Mount Gambier Magistrates Court, but his defence counsel entered guilty pleas to disorderly behaviour and carrying an offensive weapon on his behalf.

The prosecution said the incident occurred on Bay Road during the early hours of the morning.

The man was removed from a licensed premises and became belligerent with security and police.

However, it was not until he threatened to defecate on the ground that he was arrested.

Police found the defendant in possession of a fold out knife.

He spent a few hours in custody, but was not interviewed due to his belligerent behaviour.

The defendant’s lawyer said his behaviour was out of character.

“His life had been a bit up and down and became intoxicated, which is how this behaviour came about,” the defendant’s lawyer said.

“He concedes he drank too much and misbehaved.”

Magistrate Teresa Anderson said the defendant was difficult with police and had made an offensive comment.

She convicted and fined the defendant $420.

Court costs also have to be paid.
