ANYONE who has ever wondered what it might be like to be in the SA Ambulance Service (SAAS) will be able to get a glimpse during the Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival when the Penola branch hosts a pop up event over the weekend.

Held on May 18, the service invites residents and tourists to meet the team, inspect the ambulance and even get a free health check.

Experienced ambulance officers will take blood pressure, blood glucose readings, oxygen rates, heart monitoring and demonstrating basic first aid and current snake bite treatment.

SAAS regional team leader Joe Renko said the event was an ideal opportunity to showcase the skills of the Penola ambulance team.

“It also gives locals who might be considering volunteering the chance to see what we’re all about,” he said.

“Our team is made up of volunteers from Penola and Naracoorte and is also assisted by the Limestone Coast Volunteer Regional Response Team, who mostly come from Mount Gambier.

“They are a special group of people who always do their best to serve the community and provide 24 hour ambulance assistance.”

The event also kick starts this year’s National Volunteer Week.

Head to the Penola town square from 10am to meet the team.
