Penola Lions roll out mobility scooter initative

Mike Matuschka TBW Newsgroup
READY TO RIDE: Lions Club of Penola secretary Mike Matuschka takes the club’s new mobility scooter out for a spin. The scooter is free to hire for members of the public.

PENOLA residents now have the opportunity to hire a mobility scooter after one was recently gifted to the Lions Club of Penola.

Generously donated by a local family, the club has made the scooter free of charge for anyone who may have a need for it.

The scooter can be borrowed by any member of the public who adheres to a strict number of conditions in regard to road rules, insurance and driver’s responsibilities.

Club president Peter Muller said he hoped the scooter would be well utilised by the public.

“We are very fortunate to now have ownership of the scooter and I am sure there are many in the community who could utilise it,” he said.

“It is quite easy to borrow, you just have to sign an agreement before use.”

Mr Muller also stressed the importance of awareness of road users especially around mobility scooters.

“All motor vehicle drivers need to remain aware there are a number of scooters in use around the town, used in the most part by our senior citizens,” he said.

“They deserve the same courtesy we would extend to other drivers.”

Contact Mr Muller on 0409 372 262 to use the scooter.
