THERE was a round of “appaws” for Millicent Veterinary Clinic on Friday night as the business opened the doors to its new state of the art facility.
A crowd of over 200 people flocked to the clinic, located in the former Landmark building, to show support for co-proprietors Dr Sean and Sarah McGrath’s newest venture.
Special guest Dr Kevin McGrath officially opened the facility and reflected on the his service to the community and the fact the clinic had remained in the family for over 30 years.
Ms McGrath said she was delighted with the overwhelming support displayed by the Millicent district at the event and was passionate about providing a waiting area and particular feel to the clinic, which made people comfortable.
“The clinic gave insight into the amazing technology we have to support the services we provide,” she said.
“I am passionate about providing a waiting area and feel to the new facility that makes people feel good and loved.
“It is so much fun now being able to sit on the floor, give a dog a belly rub and enjoy the sunlight streaming in.
“We have so much more space now the pets coming in are relaxed, which is fantastic.”
The new facility boasts two state of the art operating theatres, separate climate controlled dog and cat hospital accommodation and a full in-house laboratory that can perform clinical blood testing on horses, cattle, dogs and cats.
It also includes an innovative humidicrib for neonatal care and a safe area to examine and restrain horses which includes float access.
The clinic is now focusing on phase two of the development, which includes a reflection room, garden and puppy playground.
Ms McGrath said she hoped to receive some community consultation and support from local groups including the Millicent Men’s Shed in the planning of the new space.
“The more involvement we can have with our community the better, we have loved the excitement and feedback we have received about the new premises so far,” she said.
“My grandfather also recently donated a vehicle that was owned by her late grandmother.
“This vehicle will now by known as The Margaret Alice Mobile Veterinary Nursing Unit and will enable us to have a day where our nursing staff can provide home visits to people unable to come in such as the elderly, whether it would be for a nail trim or if they need help with medication.
“We hope to get this service up and running soon.”
