PET owners across the Glenelg Shire are being reminded to register their furry friends this month.
Council’s annual animal registration renewals will be sent out during March, inviting households to register any current, or new, domestic cats and dogs for the next 12 months.
The Domestic Animals Act 1994 requires dog and cat owners to microchip and register their animals three months of age or older with their local council.
Local Laws team leader Jacqui Muskee said she anticipated over 5500 animal registrations would be received.
“We are fortunate to have a fantastic pet friendly lifestyle in the Glenelg Shire and it shows, with approximately 4200 dogs and 1500 cats registered last year,” she said.
“The registration renewals will soon be delivered and pet owners should advise the Local Laws team of any changes from the previous year.
“This includes a change of address or contact details, if you have rehomed or adopted a new pet, or if one has passed away.”
Ms Muskee said registration fees can be considerably reduced if an animal has been desexed and proof can be provided.
“Please let us know what details have changed,” she said.
“We would like to be best informed so we can update our records and ensure registration renewals are as accurate as possible.
“Lets ensure the Glenelg Shire continues to remain a fantastic place to live, play, study and work by being responsible pet owners.”
Animal registration payments will be due by April 10, with payments able to be made in person at any of council’s customer service centres or by internet banking, post or BPAY.
The fee categories are available for viewing on council’s website.
Discounts apply for desexed cats and dogs.
