Footy fans ready for new tipping season

GO THE SAINTS: Steve Tidy is ready to test his tipping prowess in the AFL competition run by The South Eastern Times. Picture: J.L. “FRED” SMITH

A MAN who was born in Queensland and spent much of his life in New South Wales has turned out to be one of the strongest supporters of a Melbourne team in the AFL.

Throughout all 23 rounds of the coming AFL season, Steve Tidy will cheer on the St Kilda Saints.

He is also a keen participant in the AFL tipping competition run each season by The South Eastern Times.

Along with his wife Sharon, they have been weekly winners of the $100 in vouchers but the lucrative $1000 end-of-season bonanza has eluded them.

They have been tipping for well over 15 years and have used their winning vouchers at Foster’s Foodland.

Steve came to barrack for the Saints in their sole premiership season in 1966.

He missed the grand final in that year when the Saints got over Collingwood by one point.

“I was posted to St Kilda when I was in the army,” Steve said.

“I might barrack for the Saints but it does not mean that I tip them every week.”

Steve filled in his registration forms on Monday as he is again keen to be in the running for the total prize pool worth $3300.

Registrations are essential and must be lodged by 5pm on March 11.

They may be dropped into the office of The South Eastern Times in Davenport Street or posted to Box 22, Millicent, 5280.

Full details of how to enter each week will then be posted to participants.

Registration forms are being regularly published in The South Eastern Times.

If you have not lodged your registration form, please make sure to do so before the deadline on March 11.
