Foundation helps ease ‘back to school’ financial strain

GRATEFUL: Penola Primary School Anna Copping welcomes a donation of $50 vouchers from Stand Like Stone Foundation’s Rhett McDonald to help relieve the pressure of back to school costs for local families.

GENEROUS SUPPORT: Stand Like Stone Foundation’s Rhett McDonald presents Penola High School principal Ngaire Benfell with vouchers from the Back to School program.

A NUMBER of Limestone Coast families have received financial support through the Stand Like Stone Foundation to help ease the burden of the back to school period.

The $50 vouchers distributed through schools are designed to help offset the costs associated with the start of a new school year.

Presentations were recently made to Penola High School, along with Penola, Kalangadoo and Nangwarry primary schools, with the schools to distribute the vouchers to support families with the greatest needs.

The program is unique, in that families can choose how they spend their vouchers and put them towards items that will provide the most benefit for their children.

It is the 14th year Stand Like Stone has issued vouchers through its back to school program.

The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal provide a bulk of the funds for the programs while the remainder is sourced through Stand Like Stone fundraising events and generous donations.

Charitable projects across the region are also in line with some extra funding with applications now open.

Funding is available for the Summer Small Grants and OneFortyOne Community Capacity Building grants.

Summer Small Grants offers funding of up to $5000 for charitable projects to benefit the Limestone Coast and OneFortyOne Community Capacity Building offers between $5000 and $20,000 for projects building capacity in the region.

Visit www.standlikestone.com.au for application forms or more information.

Applications close March 31.
