THE Southend Progress Association plans to upgrade the Southend historical photographs and displays located within the Southend Community Centre.

The club recently sought 50pc of the total $4000 project cost from Wattle Range Council and was successful in obtaining a $2000 community grant.

The February meeting of council also awarded grants of up to $2000 to three other groups and one business following the recommendations of staff.

The Coonawarra Soldiers Memorial Community Hall Committee is seeking to undertake renovations to the facility including upgrade of toilets, replacement of old bar area, refurbishment of community room and the establishment of an outdoor alfresco area at a cost of $185,000.

It received an allocation of $2000.

The Glencoe Public Hall Committee received a $1500 grant to undertake maintenance works to the structure which includes replacement of the existing gutters at a cost of $3500.

The Central Hub Market in Millicent wants to install an air-conditioning unit within the back section of the building.

It is private enterprise which has been established to promote small business within the community, showcasing local product and produce.

The space has also been developed to allow for communities to learn, enjoy and network.

The proposed project is to provide air-conditioning within the produce, pantry and tea room section of the building which showcases fresh local produce.

A portion of the cost will be met by the $2000 grant from council.

A $1800 grant will help the Penola and District Business and Tourism Association to undertake a beautification project which will include the placement of potted colour and fairy lights within Church Street.
