MILLICENT lost another war veteran on February 10 with the passing of Harry Stark at the age of 91.
According to his war record, Mr Stark enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy in April, 1945 and just after his 18th birthday.
He remained in the ‘senior service’ for three and a half years and was discharged in 1948 with the rank of ordinary seaman.
His funeral will be held at the Millicent Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday,
Furner freelance photographer Jacqui Bateman took the image pictured right of Mr Stark in 2015.
As a member of the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers, Ms Bateman travelled to many towns in the region in that year.
The AIPP Reflections Project involved photographers from across the nation approaching every single World War II veteran to have their portrait taken, professionally and at no charge.
The local ranks of veterans diminished in 2018 with the passing of six World War II service personnel.
They were Millicent’s Grace MacKenzie, Father Alf Stringer, Max Skeer, Ron Howe and Morgan “Ted” Lewis as well as Beachport’s Monte Bartholomew.
There are now only a handful of World War II veterans remaining in the Millicent district.
