Library app launched

DIGITAL CARD: Mount Gambier Library manager Georgina Davison is encouraging community members to download the new Libraries SA app ahead of the official launch on February 14 and go in the draw to win a Samsung Galaxy tablet.

MOUNT Gambier Library will literally be in the pocket of South East residents with the official launch of the Libraries SA app.

The free app for smart phones and tablets lets South Australian public library customers access their favourite services wherever they are.

The app allows community members to search and place holds on physical books, DVDs and CDs, as well as access digital content such as eBooks, digital magazines and online learning from their mobile device.

Customers can also manage their loans and use the app as a virtual library card as the app is capable of displaying a customer’s name and barcode.

Mount Gambier Library manager Georgina Davison encouraged community members to attend the official launch at the library on February 14 at 3.30pm.

“We will have cake for the official launch and we ask for everyone to bring along their mobile device; phone or tablet and download the app with us,” she said.

“Everyone who downloads the app will go into the draw to win a Samsung Galaxy tablet.”

Ms Davison said the digital system would “remove the hassle of having your library card on you at all times”.

“You can search the catalogue, make a library room booking, discover all of our events and one of the major functions is that you can scan an item when you are out and about see if we have it in our library,” she said.

“So if you are at a friend’s place and they have a DVD recommendation, or if you see a new release book you can scan the barcode and the app tells you if we have it and you can place a hold immediately.”
