MSEFL kick off approaches

BACK IN ACTION: Robe will host the grand final rematch against Mount Burr in the opening round of the Mid South East Football League 2019 season on April 6.

ROBE Football Club will be out to prove its 2018 Mid South East Football League A Grade premiership was no fluke when the season kicks off on April 6.

The Roosters will host last year’s runner-up Mount Burr in what is expected to be a blockbuster match.

Robe stole the show in 2018 with siren-beating goal to claim the flag, with the Mozzies left to lick their wounds.

Jack Kelly will again be at the helm of the Roosters and will want to replicate that winning feeling, while Mount Burr’s Tom Renzi will be out to atone for the loss.

A draft of the 2019 program had been circulated to the nine MSEFL clubs in recent weeks and was released to the public on Tuesday.

Nangwarry will look to literally rise from the ashes after its clubroom was burnt to the ground recently.

The region rallied around the club in a show of support, with the Saints set to host the usual eight games this season, firstly in round two against Kongorong.

After a break of a few years Robe has secured a Good Friday game this season where it will host Tantanoola on April 19.

Each Mid SE club will have five weekends off on account of two scheduled byes as well as breaks for Easter on April 20, the zone carnival on June 8 and the South Australian Country Football Championships at Port Pirie on July 13.

Kalangadoo has played in the past five major rounds and it has the bye in the last minor round game on August 24.

The MSEFL grand final is scheduled for Mount Burr on September 21.

However, the MSEFL rules state the match will have to be shifted if the Mozzies qualify for their fifth consecutive Mid South East season decider.

The Wattle Range Council area already has two other grand finals in the month of September.

The Western Border grand final will be played at McLaughlin Park in Millicent and the Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara season decider will be at McCorquindale Park at Penola.
