Season approaches kick off

READY FOR ACTION: The Limestone Coast Women’s Football League is set to kick off, with three extra teams in place for the 2019 season.

THE Limestone Coast Women’s Football League has released its 2019 draw, with eight minor rounds set down between February 3 and March 24.

A day of finals will follow on March 31 to incorporate the expanded 11-team competition.

With the new teams involved, the competition covers the whole region, from Mundulla and Kybybolite in the north, to Port MacDonnell in the south and across the border to Casterton Sandford.

Mundulla, Casterton Sandford and Penola complete the league this season, which will start on February 3 at Mundulla.

All games will again be played at the one venue each weekend for the majority of the season, with 10.30am Sunday morning starts and the final game of the day to kick off at 3.30pm.

However, two split rounds will see two different grounds utilised on the same day.

On March 11 – a Monday long weekend fixture – round six has three games set down for Millicent and two at Casterton.

The first games will start at 11.45am and the second at 1pm, with the final game at Millicent to kick off at 2.15pm.

Round seven will follow on March 17 with three games at Glencoe and two at Penola with the same time frames.

The finals take place on on March 31 at Blue Lake Sports Park in a 9v10, 7v8, 5v6, 3v4 and 1v2 format, with the final game the grand final.

The grand final rematch between premiers Kybybolite and runners-up Millicent will take place on Monday, March 11 at Millicent.

There will also be the chance for players to be selected in the SE women’s team at the end of the season to compete in the state Country Championships at Port Pirie in July.

Anyone interested in playing women’s AFL can still contact a local club about a game.
