Cyclist killed in highway hit-and run

MAJOR Crash Investigators are appealing for information from the public following a fatal hit-run collision involving a cyclist yesterday morning near the Coorong.

At around 7.45am, a motorist discovered a cyclist on the side of the Princes Highway about 50km north of Kingston and south of Salt Creek.

Ambulance paramedics rushed to the scene, treating the critically injured cyclist, but the 60-year-old Victorian man died at the scene.

Major Crash Investigators have attended and are treating the incident as a hit-run collision.

Police patrols from the region including the police helicopter searched the area yesterday for any vehicles that may have been involved.

Investigators are appealing to the driver involved in the collision to come forward and contact police.

They are also asking any motorist who was driving on the Princes Highway this morning between 7am and 7.45am that saw two cyclists riding north on the Princes Highway to come forward.

They may be able to help with the investigation and should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The man’s death brings the State’s road toll to seven compared to five at the same time last year.
