Penola High School presentation night

FOR almost six decades, Penola High School has recognised the achievements of students throughout their secondary education.

Over 200 people gathered at the school hall last Wednesday for its 57th annual presentation night to celebrate a successful year.

Drinks and nibbles prepared by Olivia Jaeschke and a team of student helpers were served in the foyer, where a collection of Year 11 student art curated by art teacher Keren Asser was displayed.

Keyboardist Phoebe Tregenza added to the atmosphere, before formal proceedings began with Year 11 student Brooke Hutchesson delivering the Acknowledgement of the Land.

Student comperes Ebonie Moulton and Connor Murphy welcomed guests and delivered the apologies.

Stage 1 student and Penola Pipe Band member Jack Clifton entertained the audience with a bagpipe medley involving songs Amazing Grace, Skye Boat Song and Leaving Lismore.

The 2018 High School Governing Council Dux Awards were presented by Allan Kain to Georgia Winter (Year 8), Ella Hutchesson (Year 9), Amy Whitehouse (Year 10), Phoebe Tregenza (Year 11) and Gorgia Robbie (Year 12).

Other award recipients included Neville Dixon and Brooke Hutchesson (The Penola and Coonawarra RSL Award), Connor Murphy (2018 ADF Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Award), Joel Virtanen (Tom Foran Memorial Award), Amy Whitehouse (Kwong Lee Dow scholar certificate), Aliza Pfitzner (Reuben Goldsworthy Award), Caleb Lythgo (community service award), Ashe Monticello and Joanne Drury (UniSA Academic Award), Sam Klemm (Excellence in Technology Studies Award), Phoebe Tregenza (Aspiring Science Student Award), Lucy Butler and Jack Walker (Governing Council’s Merit Certificate), and Ebonie Moulton, Thomas Jerome and Phoebe Tregenza (Catherine Martin Literary Competition certificate).
