Festive celebration

HOLIDAY CHEER: The annual Penola Christmas street party is set to be held on December 21 with festivities kicking off at 5pm.

FESTIVE cheer will radiate from the heart of Penola on tomorrow night as the district comes together for the annual Christmas street party.

War Memorial Park will serve as the centrepiece for the annual community event, which is expected to draw hundreds into the town’s central hub.

Forecast grey skies and mild weather will do little to take the Christmas spirit out of the air, with celebrations kicking off from 5pm.

The decorated bike competition will return, which Penola and District Business and Tourism Association (PADBATA) president Dru Reschke said adds excitement to the community event.

“Its always so great to see the effort all the kids put in to decorate their bikes and we cannot wait to see what they come up with this year,” he said.

Santa will arrive around 6pm to meet with all the local children and join in the festive atmosphere.

The park and surrounds will be filled with activities for all ages with a jumping castle, fairy floss and popcorn, face painting and the popular muscle car display.

Food and beverage vans will join vignerons on-site to provide refreshements.

Adding to the fun will be the Christmas raffle with first prize being a Weber Q barbecue with tickets only $2.

“Tickets are already available through local outlets,” Mr Reshcke said.

“But people will also have the opportunity to purchase them on the night.”

One of the biggest draws will be the announcement of the 2018 Stuffed Santa competition.

“There are so many fabulous and creative entries already up around the area so the judges are going to have a tough decision,” Mr Reschke said.

“Make sure you make some time to get around and have a look at them before the night to see the Hollywood roles that Santa finds himself in.”

The winners will be announced at 7pm along with the raffle.
